About the Book

What is The Art of Living Freely!?

The Art of Living Freely! — Don’t Wait To Be Chosen is a practical book about creating more choices in your life. It explores work, income, entrepreneurship, artificial intelligence, personal reinvention and the opportunities that emerge when you stop waiting for somebody else to give you permission.

The central idea is simple: nobody starts from zero, and nobody needs to wait to be chosen.

What does Don’t Wait To Be Chosen mean?

For much of our lives, we are taught to apply, wait, qualify, interview and hope somebody chooses us. A university chooses you. An employer chooses you. A bank chooses you. A client chooses you. An investor chooses you.

Sometimes that system works. Sometimes it does not.

Don’t Wait To Be Chosen means recognising that you can also create opportunities yourself. Start something. Learn something. Sell something. Help somebody. Build a small income stream. Test an idea. Use technology. Meet people. Experiment.

You do not have to abandon conventional employment. You simply stop making it your only option.

Is this a book about getting a job?

No. Finding work is only one part of it.

The book is equally relevant to students preparing to enter the workforce, people already employed but wanting additional income, single and stay-at-home parents, freelancers, administrators, managers, struggling business owners, people facing redundancy, retirees looking for a new chapter and successful entrepreneurs or super affiliates looking for new opportunities.

It is about creating options, whatever your present circumstances.

Who is the book for?

Almost anybody who wants greater control over their working life, income or future.

You might be 18 and wondering what comes after school. You might be 45 and wondering whether your career still has a future. You might be 65 and wondering what comes next.

You could be employed, unemployed, self-employed, retired, studying or running a successful business.

Your country, profession, qualifications and present bank balance are not the important part. What matters is what you do next.

Is the book relevant globally?

Yes. The principles are deliberately international.

Technology, AI, changing employment patterns, remote work, entrepreneurship and the need for multiple options affect people throughout the world.

Specific laws, taxes, salaries and business conditions naturally differ from country to country, but the underlying ideas can be applied almost anywhere.

Do I need business experience?

No. You do not need to know how to start a company, write a business plan, build a website or become a professional salesperson.

The idea is to start with what you already know, test small ideas and learn what you need as you go.

Do I need to understand artificial intelligence?

No. The book is designed partly for people who do not yet know how to use AI effectively.

AI should not be treated as magic, nor something to fear. Think of it as another tool — potentially an extraordinarily useful one — that can help you research, write, learn, organise, brainstorm, communicate and turn ideas into action.

Will AI take my job?

Nobody can predict exactly how AI will affect every occupation.

What is already clear is that many jobs and industries are changing. The book therefore focuses less on predicting exactly what will disappear and more on helping you become adaptable.

The objective is not to compete with AI at everything. It is to learn how to work with it intelligently.

What is the Invisible Backpack?

Your Invisible Backpack is everything you have accumulated through life that may have value, even if you have never thought of it as an asset.

That can include skills, knowledge, work experience, hobbies, languages, contacts, mistakes, interests, local knowledge, professional experience and things you have learned simply by living.

Most people carry far more in their Invisible Backpack than they realise.

What is the Freedom Loop?

The Freedom Loop is a practical process built around five actions: Learn → Do → Share → Earn → Repeat.

Rather than waiting for the perfect idea or perfect circumstances, you identify something useful, take action, share what you have learned or created, explore ways to earn from the value you provide and repeat what works.

Small experiments create information. Information creates better decisions. Better decisions create more options.

What is the €100 Experiment?

It is an invitation to test an idea without betting the farm.

Instead of spending months planning a business and thousands of euros launching it, ask whether you can test the essential idea for approximately €100 — or its equivalent in your own currency.

The objective is not the €100 itself. The principle is small risk, fast learning.

What are the 30-Day Freedom Challenge and 90-Day Freedom Plan?

They are designed to turn reading into action.

The 30-Day Freedom Challenge helps you build momentum through manageable daily actions. The 90-Day Freedom Plan gives you a longer period in which to develop, test, improve and repeat what works for you.

The book is not intended simply to sit on a shelf. Read it. Use it. Put it into action.

Getting the Book

Is the book really free?

Yes. The PDF and ePub editions are completely free.

There is no credit card required and no charge hidden behind the download.

Download the free PDF or download the free ePub.

Do I have to register before downloading the book?

No. You can download the free digital editions without creating an account, providing your email address or joining the Community.

There are no registration requirements and no strings attached.

Why are you giving the book away?

Because the objective is to get the ideas into people’s hands.

A price should not prevent somebody who is unemployed, struggling financially, studying or simply curious from reading it.

If the book helps somebody create one useful idea, make one better decision or discover one new opportunity, it has done its job.

Free does not mean worthless. It means the distribution strategy is different.

What's the catch?

There isn’t one.

The free editions are free. There is no requirement to buy another product, join a paid programme, make a donation or hand over a credit card before you can read the book.

There are no promises of instant wealth or guaranteed success, either. You are simply being given a practical book and the freedom to decide what to do with it.

Is there a paperback edition?

Yes. For readers who prefer a physical book, a paperback edition is available for $9.99.

The digital PDF and ePub editions remain free.

View the paperback edition.

What is the difference between PDF and ePub?

The content is exactly the same; the format is different.

PDF is ideal for computers, tablets, printing and reading the book exactly as it was laid out.

ePub is designed for e-readers and reading applications. The text can adapt more easily to different screen sizes and font preferences.

Which version should I download?

If you are unsure, download the PDF.

If you regularly use an e-reader or an ePub-compatible reading app, choose ePub.

There is nothing stopping you from downloading both.

Can I share the book with somebody else?

Absolutely. Please pass it on.

You are welcome to share the complete, unaltered digital edition for personal, educational and non-commercial community purposes.

The simplest approach is to send somebody the official website link so they can obtain the latest edition directly and explore the supporting resources.

Commercial resale, substantial republication and adaptations require permission.

Can schools, universities, charities or organisations recommend the book?

Yes, and we encourage it.

The book has deliberately been made accessible to people at very different stages of life, including scholars, students, jobseekers, employees, entrepreneurs and retirees.

Schools, universities, career centres, recruiters, employers, libraries, charities and community organisations are welcome to recommend the book and share the complete digital edition for non-commercial educational and community purposes.

Money, Work & Opportunity

Will this book make me rich?

No book can honestly promise that.

What it can do is expose you to different ways of thinking about work, skills, AI, income and opportunity.

What happens after that depends on what you try, what you learn, the circumstances in which you operate and how consistently you act.

The book offers possibilities, not promises.

Is this a get-rich-quick scheme?

No. There are no guaranteed returns, secret formulas or overnight success promises.

Building useful skills, relationships, businesses and income streams generally takes work.

The website deliberately stands for NO HYPE.

Do I have to quit my job?

Absolutely not.

For many people, keeping their existing employment while gradually creating additional options is the sensible approach.

The purpose is not to replace one rigid rule — get a job — with another rigid rule — quit your job.

The purpose is freedom of choice.

I already have a good job. Why should I read this book?

Because financial freedom and employment are not the same thing.

A good salary can still depend on one employer, one industry and one source of income.

The book encourages you to think about your skills, networks, interests and opportunities beyond the boundaries of your job title.

I have no money. Is there anything here I can actually do?

Yes. That is one reason the digital book is free.

Many of the ideas begin with resources people already possess: knowledge, time, experience, contacts, internet access, an existing skill or the willingness to learn something new.

Not every opportunity requires capital. Start with what you have, where you are.

I have tried businesses before and failed. Is this still relevant?

Possibly even more so.

Failure gives you information — provided you examine what happened.

The philosophy of the book is not to risk everything on one grand idea. It is to experiment intelligently, learn quickly and make the next decision with better information.

A failed experiment does not make you a failure.

I'm retired. Isn't this aimed at younger people?

No. Retirement can provide something extraordinarily valuable: decades of accumulated knowledge and experience.

Living freely does not necessarily mean going back to full-time work. It can mean consulting, mentoring, teaching, creating, volunteering, travelling, running a small project or simply generating enough additional income to create greater choice.

Retirement can be the beginning of another chapter, not necessarily the end of the story.

I'm a student. Why should I worry about this now?

Because entering the workforce with only one plan is increasingly risky.

Your qualifications matter, but so do adaptability, communication, digital skills, AI literacy, initiative and your ability to create value independently.

The earlier you develop those skills, the more options you may have when you enter the workforce.

I'm a single or stay-at-home parent. Is this practical for me?

That is precisely the kind of circumstance in which flexibility matters.

The internet, remote work, digital services, online communities and AI have created ways of working that do not always require conventional office hours.

The book encourages you to look at your actual circumstances and build around them rather than pretending everybody has the same amount of time, money and freedom.

I already run a business. What can I learn from this book?

Possibly a different way of looking at what you already have.

Established business owners can become trapped by routines just as easily as employees can.

AI, automation, collaboration, partnerships, affiliate relationships and small experiments can uncover opportunities that were previously uneconomic or simply overlooked.

Sometimes the next opportunity is not a new business. It is a better way of using the one you already have.

Community

What is The Art of Living Freely Community?

It is a place for readers and like-minded people from different countries, professions, ages and cultures to meet and have meaningful conversations about creating greater freedom and opportunity.

The intention is a courteous, useful international community rather than another noisy social network.

Our philosophy is Ubuntu: I am because we are.

Join the conversation.

Is it free to join the Community?

Yes. Creating a user account is free.

There is no requirement to purchase the book or buy a membership simply to create your account and join the conversation.

Register or log in here.

Do I have to join the Community to read the book?

No. The book can be downloaded without joining the Community.

Community participation is entirely optional.

Why should I join the Community?

Because books are one-way conversations. Communities are not.

One person may understand technology. Another may understand marketing. Somebody else may know their local business environment. Another may simply have tried something you are thinking about trying.

The value comes from sharing experiences and learning from one another.

You are not alone.

Do I have to agree with everyone?

Certainly not. Useful communities contain different opinions.

What matters is how people disagree. Challenge ideas, ask questions and bring another perspective — but remain courteous towards the person on the other side of the conversation.

Different perspectives are welcome. Personal attacks are not.

Can I promote my business in the Community?

Relevant recommendations, expertise and opportunities can add value to a community. Unsolicited spam does not.

The distinction is simple: contribute first; promote responsibly.

Respect the Community rules and recommend products or services because they genuinely offer value, not simply because you may earn a commission.

Is the Community moderated?

Yes. The purpose is to maintain a useful and courteous environment.

Abusive behaviour, harassment, spam, scams and deliberate disruption have no place in it.

We want members to feel comfortable asking questions, sharing their experiences and participating in meaningful conversations.

Why do you discourage anonymous participation?

Accountability generally improves conversation.

People are more likely to behave constructively when they participate as genuine members of a community rather than disposable anonymous usernames.

We want to build a community based on trust, courtesy and meaningful human relationships.

What if I don't want to use my social media account to log in?

That is your choice.

Social login is offered as a convenient way to access the Community and support genuine participation. Consult our Privacy Policy for details of how personal information is handled.

You do not need a Community account or social login to download and read the free book.

Trust, Privacy & Philosophy

Are you going to bombard me with emails?

No. One of the principles of the project is NO SPAM.

If you choose to receive updates, the intention is to send useful information rather than fill your inbox with unnecessary messages.

You should be able to unsubscribe from optional marketing communications.

Will you sell my personal information?

Personal information is handled in accordance with the website’s published privacy policy and applicable data-protection requirements.

For details about what information is collected, how it is used, whether it is shared and what choices you have, please consult our Privacy Policy.

Are there advertisements all over the website?

The project is built around the principle of NO ADS.

We do not want this to become another website designed primarily to interrupt visitors with advertising.

The priority is providing useful content, practical resources and meaningful opportunities.

Are you asking for donations?

No. NO DONATIONS is part of the philosophy.

The broader idea is to explore sustainable ways of creating economic value rather than continually asking people to reach into their pockets.

Our aim is to help people develop the means to support themselves while also caring for the world around them.

What is Ubuntu, and what does it have to do with this book?

Ubuntu is an African philosophy commonly expressed as I am because we are.

None of us becomes who we are entirely alone. Teachers, colleagues, customers, friends, family and sometimes complete strangers contribute to our development.

The Art of Living Freely! connects personal independence with the responsibility and opportunity to help others.

Its underlying philosophy can be expressed in three words: Earning. Caring. Sharing.

What does Earning, Caring and Sharing mean?

Earning means creating genuine value, developing useful capabilities and working towards greater financial independence.

Caring means recognising that our decisions affect other people, our communities and the world around us.

Sharing means passing on knowledge, making introductions, creating opportunities and helping others move forward.

Financial independence and social responsibility do not have to be competing ambitions.

Is this initiative political?

No political affiliation is required to read the book or participate in the Community.

People from different countries, backgrounds and viewpoints are welcome.

The focus is practical: work, opportunity, income, technology, community and personal freedom.

Is this anti-employment?

No. There is nothing wrong with having a job.

There is something worth questioning about believing that a job is the only legitimate way to create income, purpose or security.

The book encourages you to develop additional options without prescribing one particular way of living.

Is this anti-capitalist or anti-business?

No. The book encourages enterprise, experimentation, trade, cooperation and the creation of genuine value.

At the same time, it questions assumptions and systems that unnecessarily restrict people’s choices.

The objective is greater independence, opportunity and responsibility.

Is this based on blockchain, cryptocurrency or NFTs?

No. The Art of Living Freely! is not a cryptocurrency, blockchain or NFT investment programme.

The book focuses on practical capabilities, employment, entrepreneurship, AI, creating value, developing income opportunities and building meaningful relationships.

No cryptocurrency purchase or investment is required to read the book or participate in the Community.

Is this financial advice?

No. The book discusses ideas about earning, entrepreneurship and creating additional sources of income, but it is not individual financial, investment, legal or tax advice.

Where professional advice is required, consult an appropriately qualified adviser in your jurisdiction.

Is this career advice?

The book contains ideas that may help you think about your career, but it cannot know your individual circumstances.

Treat it as a set of tools, questions and possibilities — not somebody else making your decisions for you.

About the Author

Who is Herby Olschewski?

Herby Olschewski is the author of The Art of Living Freely! — Don’t Wait To Be Chosen.

A technologist, entrepreneur, pilot and nomad, Herby has spent much of his life adapting to changing circumstances, exploring new opportunities and working across countries, industries and technologies.

The book draws on the lessons accumulated through that experience.

Meet the Author.

Why should I listen to him?

You do not have to. That is rather the point.

Read the ideas. Question them. Test the ones that make sense. Reject the ones that do not. Improve on them if you can.

This book is not asking you to acquire another guru. It is asking you to think and act for yourself.

What if I disagree with the book?

Good. Join the conversation and explain why.

A worthwhile idea should survive questions, discussion and different perspectives.

We welcome courteous debate, constructive criticism and alternative approaches.

Join the conversation.

What if I already know all this?

Then you may have something useful to contribute.

Living freely is not a beginner’s course with a finish line. Someone who has successfully built businesses, income streams or a more independent life can often help somebody who is taking their first steps.
