The concept of Ubuntu originated in Africa several centuries ago. Basically a philosophy whereby individuals become who they are, as a result of interaction with others. Our base of operations is Venice, Italy. There are two vessels on our planning sheet. A 150′ explorer motor superyacht, and 62′ sailing schooner. Both are currently in Türkiye, undergoing full refit and preparation. With comparable speeds, these vessels will form the ZaGenie Safari convoy. Starting in Venice, the first voyage is through the Adriatic Sea, following the Italian coast, with trips to Slovenia, Croatia, and Montenegro. Round the tip of Italy to Sicily, Sardinia and Corsica. Not without exploring Naples, Capri, Amalfi, Livorno, Elba and Genoa. There will also be side trips into the Italian interior.

The purpose of ZaGenie Safari is to share the joys of travel, sailing, navigation, and the technology from bow to stern. Internet connectivity by satellite, blogging and remote working. A contingent of ZaGenie Team will be on board, taking care of the vlogging, editing, uploading and sharing. The objective is to show you exactly how everything is done. Country borders are defined by governments. Personal opinions, fears and prejudices, are governed within ourselves. Physically and mentally, true freedom comes from living without any boundaries.

There are about 200 recognized countries in the world, and generally we have to live in one. Some are citizens of several, but essentially, we can only be in one place, at any given time. There are those who roam both physically and mentally. Personally, I became a PT (Perpetual Traveler) in 1986. No longer wishing to be controlled by a dystopian government, and forced to fight in military uniform, the urge to break free was strong. I packed a bag and went in search of self. My personal oyster.

Continually on the move, and side-stepping governmental bureaucracy wherever possible. Always staying on the right side of the local law, but certainly bending the rules to a yoga pose degree. The life of a non-conformist is not easy, and for some it leads to anarchy. The best policy is to be locally obedient, but mentally free. Peacefully pushing the limits of the law, and stretching the imagination to a point of personal peace. This initiative is for those who want to rise above the chaos around us.

Trying to change the political landscape and mindset of others is akin to herding cats. It’s easier to control the weather than influence the happenings in any given country. Some, choosing to enter politics, become religious leaders, or dispense wisdoms from an armchair. Each to his/her own may be the obvious answer, but we live in the same society. Sharing just one planet, we should figure out where we fit in, and where we would rather not be. It’s a complicated journey, if we want to be free.

Global Village Citizens are not born as such, they develop that mindset over a period of time. With a combination of travel and experience, becoming street smart, shaking off the barnacles of everyday life. Liberal thinking, mental fortitude, and rational behaviour are general character traits. Notably absent are arrogance, gullibility and stupidity. Nobody is perfect. This initiative is open to everyone. The policy here is simple, whereby oil and water don’t mix well, and birds of a feather flock together.

What you will find here is a vibrant community of free-thinking individuals, who understand we are all together on this planet, but don’t have to “live” within the lines drawn on a map. Preserving your individuality, comparing notes, and learning from one another. Elevating ourselves to another level, beyond the control of the idiots who try and impose a left/right path. Shaking off the shackles of authoritarianism, refusing to be herded like sheep, and lacking the inherent instinct of lemmings.

A happy Digital Nomad is the one who fits in, or moves on. Drifting from place to place, exploring, absorbing and perhaps ~ settling down.

Uprooting can happen at any stage of life. Some start young, while others develop the urge later in life. Whatever the personal circumstance, there has never been a better time to be a Digital Nomad. Copper wires no longer connect desks permanently, travel can be instantly booked on a keyboard, with airports beckoning. Getting from one country to another, finding accommodation, working productively, are quite easily achieved, as long as we stay very close to the information highway.

Many countries around the world are waking up to the benefits of making digital nomads feel at home. Removing barriers to entry, granting long stay visas, and generally understanding that most nomads are not there to burden local society, but rather a monetary windfall. Tourists only stay for so long and eat limited ice cream. Digital nomads pay steady rent, integrate into local society, and spend more money. Also, the possibility of investment. It’s not uncommon for nomads to construct homes away from home. Gone are the days when digital nomads were seen as glorified vagrants.

Digital Nomad is not just a label you get by simply going from A to B. It’s an acquired skill. Like most things in life we learn best from others. Levaldigi is a small village in the north of Italy; approximately the epicentre of Europe. Essentially dead, there is very little there, except for some buildings and scattered agriculture. No bars, shops, nor restaurants. It’s not a place to stop, but merely slow down and drive through. On the edge of town there is a large airport. Most children are introduced to the market economy, when parents offer pocket money, in return for doing chores around the house. In other words, doing some good, for just reward. Expanding beyond the garden gate, enterprising kids used to cycle newspaper rounds in the neighbourhood. Delivering daily news in return for a cut of the newspaper sales revenue. Our society has evolved whereby many parents do not have enough money to meet utility bills, let alone fund little Larry’s locomotive set, nor daughter Deborah’s Barbie doll. Financial difficulty is the mother of invention!

KIDSynergy takes the same principle of pocket money and improves on it. The house of chores becomes a world of ways for kids to help others. The bicycle of the newspaper round is parked, in favour of an affiliate program. Boys and girls can get involved in all our initiatives, spread the word, and make their own pocket money. No need to cycle into neighbourhood traffic, as the information highway is wide open, using the electronic devices that the youth drive so well. Kids are already set!

More importantly, all of this can be done quite safely from home, under the subtle supervision of proud parents. Protecting the poplar at the bottom of the garden, to fighting the destruction of the rain forests. As much as we like a nice wooden dining room table, it need not come at the expense of the planet. We all reside here, and our trees are a communal treasure. Looking out for one another and sitting in the shade together!

Silently absorbing carbon dioxide, while hosting the nests of noisy birds, these polyvalent pillars of nature are only missed once gone. Our mission is to make every tree a shrine of sustainability. Using only what we need, judiciously selected, and immediately replaced. We cannot rely on governments alone to make these judgment calls. There’s no place for dead wood; everyone should get involved!

There are trees in every corner of the world and this initiative should be ubiquitous. Trees don’t grow in any specific language and leaves rustle in only one. They talk to us, and it behoves us to listen. That, we do well, and create synergy between everyone and everything related to our trees. Naturally this includes combining resources with GARDENSynergy, FARMSynergy and BEESynergy. RESOURCESynergy also features strongly and KIDSynergy comes along for the educational ride. Needless to say, the latter is of prime importance. Children will like their children to sit in shade too!

A row of brightly coloured boxes, sitting in the shade of eucalyptus trees, tells a story that most people simply don’t know. Cautious mothers know enough to tell children to stay well away. They are however the first to spread honey over buttered bread. Such is the interesting paradox of bees, it belies the tremendously important role that bees play in our everyday lives. It stings us into action!

Just like the alphabet would be at a loss, we cannot take the bees out. Unbelievably, they are on the pest control price list, right up there with snakes and spiders. Ignorance is prevalent and that’s the pressing priority of BEESynergy. Educating the nervous and afraid; bees are critical and necessary!

BEESynergy intends to create such a buzz about our busy little friends, that bees will become to the whole world, what cows are to Hindus. Starting with education and following up with ample funding. Pumping lots of money into the problem, so that every single bee becomes a valuable commodity. Encouraging everyone around the globe to be more conscious and lend a hand wherever we can.

If there was ever an initiative that cross-pollinates well with all others, BEESynergy certainly does. There are bees in every garden, on farms, near trees and just about everywhere in between. My venture into the world of creating synergy started in June 2012. Newly retired from the pacey Information Technology industry, but too young to do nothing, PAWSynergy was born. This puppy grew into 45 initiatives along the same vein. The background story starts with supporting shelters from as far back as I can remember. Collecting, donating, walking, and supporting, never doubting. Many decades of giving time and forking over funds to the homeless cats and dogs. My last hurrah from the professional world was donating truckloads of office and computer equipment to charity.

Only to discover that most of those items ended up in second-hand stores, and the homes of animal shelter staff. It took GPS tracking chips to show me the stupidity of my ways. For many years I must have been pouring good money into the unethical pockets of others. Funding the lifestyle of charity con artists. Not implying that it’s rampant, but enough for me to reflect ~ “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!” There had to be a better way to raise funds with accountability.

PAWSynergy is not a charity. We do NOT accept nor give donations. It’s all about making LOTS of money, and then paying the bills of selected animal shelters. We buy the food, settle vet bills, build infrastructure, install computer systems and management teams. The animal shelter staff becomes paid puppy patriots and do not control the kitty, pun intended. There’s a new shelter sheriff in town!

The mission is to create synergy between everyone with an interest in helping rescued animals stuck in animal shelters around the globe. Individuals, companies and entities who speak up for those that cannot speak for themselves. Our goal is to get everyone with an interest in pets to pull in the same direction. We specifically seek out animal shelters that need financial assistance and want to raise their game. Without changing the status quo of the shelter, nor any branding, but simply assist to improve conditions, efficiency and results. PAWSynergy believes that an empty shelter is a good one!

The story starts in 1992. I was island hopping in my Piper Cherokee Six and enjoying the freedom of going from one small coral airstrip to another. One moonlit night on the sandy beach of Rock Sound, Bahamas, I was sitting quietly under the palm trees. A man came out of the shadows and waded into the sea with a hessian bag, rope, and rock. The bag was moving and yelping. I instantly confronted the man, and he ran away. Retrieving the sack I found two dozen puppies, managing to save 13. Turns out that would be a lucky number for said puppies. They would live to see barking days.

The Bahamas has thousands of stray dogs called Potcakes. Named after the habit whereby the locals leave their rice cooking pots out for the stray dogs to feed from. There are no coordinated efforts to neuter and spay, hence the only form of control is to drown the puppies as they breed. Unable to help the thousands, I did at least save 13 by flying them to Florida, into the adoption system there. My thinking was that if I can do it for 13, we can do it for 13000. I vowed to be back.

Life got in the way. In 2016 I moved back to Florida. The plan was to have a retirement home in the Bahamas and spend my days flying volunteer vets out to the islands, and fly strays back to the USA for adoption. However, in the same year the political landscape in the USA changed. Turdy Trump would not renew my visa as I’m from a “shitty” country. Bye-bye Uncle Sam and I moved to Europe. There are even more strays there, so the project lives on. We focus on the UK and Central Europe. The strays in the streets of Sicily have a much better chance of adoption in the richer north of Italy, with fancy collars and premium dog food waiting in the homes around Milan. Simply a flight away!

Wings4paws collaborates with PAWSynergy, PAWSecondChance and Aviation Synergy. While helping with the plight of dogs and cats stuck in rescue shelters, we also support the aviation industry. The planes are flown by trainee commercial pilots who need to build up hours. There are also private pilots who can volunteer space in their planes and fly newly adopted pets closer to forever homes. Feel good feelings all around, as we help solve the homeless pet problem, and cunningly justify the carbon footprints in the sky. Aviation is a money intensive industry, but we are up to the challenge.

Anyone spending time on social media will note the multitude of pleas to find lost pets. Many Facebook timelines and groups are sure to see posts of distressed dogs, or cats gone missing. Likewise, a walk around your neighbourhood will show trees telling tragic tales of lost dogs, and lampposts lamenting about cats that did not make it home last week. We need a better messenger.

As they say, there’s an app for that. Lost~Found~Adopt is more than a mobile application. It is a technology platform for the pet industry. Intentionally blandly named and devoid of branding, advertising, and devious ploys to sell you and/or your pet something. There are existing apps out there, but their intent is to sell more pet food, than actually reunite owners with their paw-legged friends. Also, most apps are written for the USA marketplace, and only work with zip codes. There is a world beyond the East and West coasts, with more pets globally. Also, a zip is a thing to hide many things. Postcodes are where most people live, and so do their pets. Lost~Found~Adopt is worldwide!

For such a global app to succeed, it must be ubiquitous and device neutral. Pets don’t care about the Apple elite, nor the Android devotees, they just want to be reunited quickly. The app is programmed in Flutter. Not the wings of a Hummingbird, but there’s a similarity. We want this app to be very busy. It works in three stages: Allow anyone to easily report a LOST pet; quickly make a post if a lost pet is FOUND; unclaimed pets can be flagged as ADOPT. ~ All done by pointing your phone at the problem! ~

Lost~Found~Adopt has digital channels to PAWSecondChance, that welcomes unclaimed animals, speeds up the adoption process, and helps them hitch a ride with Wings4paws. Ably supported by PAWSynergy, LFA is an important corner of our FOUR PAW STRATEGY. Creating synergy in the pet industry, educating owners, encouraging responsibility, and reducing the unwanted population of dogs and cats. A tall task indeed, like preventing poo on pavements or herding curious cats, but as Yoda says, “There is no try!” Lost~Found~Adopt is free to use, with a revenue generation master plan!

People should only need to use one directory and geographically locate the nearest adoption sources around them. None of them competing, but rather working together to make it very easy for prospective pet parents to find companions. The overall result is to speed up adoptions and reduce the wait times.

A noble mission indeed and seemingly difficult to achieve is entirely possible if we encourage many people around the world, to lend a local hand. We provide a platform and suite of services to do just that. Growing up in the 60’s and 70’s without television, the entertainment highlight in my small town, was the arrival of the circus. Posters going up and cars with megaphones blared through the streets, we practically camped at the circus ground, in fear of missing the fun. Entertainment for us, but no fun for the wild animals forced to parade in the ring, while we blissfully munched on popcorn. As we get older, the realities of circus stupidity become apparent, and our mindset changes. Circuses are cruel.

Simply signing petitions is not going to hack it. We must follow a more effective strategy, shine a light on every circus we can find, and persuade them to adapt. Not shut down, as there is nothing wrong with clowns and trapeze artists. It’s the elephants, lions, and tigers, that we must get out of the ring. In a world becoming a zoo itself, there are many zoos. Whoever came up with the idea of holding animals captive, for us to gawk at through iron bars, is not the one to blame for this stupidity. The real culprits are the people who are paying for the privilege and propagating the pain. Why displace these animals from natural habitats, condemning them to a life of loneliness and misery? Zoos are a relic of the past when wooden ships brought curiosities to us. Now we can simply watch National Geographic, use virtual reality headsets, and/or travel right to the misty hills where gorillas roam.

To make matters worse, many zoos are derelict and deteriorating, due to lack of funding and/or war. When refugees flee town, the last thing they think about is taking a tiger with them. The bottom line is that zoos just don’t make sense, and we must do something about these concentrated cages of cruel captivity. A concerted effort to shut down bad zoos and/or repurpose the building complexes.

Not all zoos are bad and there are many ways we can make changes for the better. Easier said than done, what it takes is willing hands and lots of money. So, what else is new? ZOOSynergy is new, we have a plan, and the business model to sustain it. All we have to do is find the people to participate.

Zoos basically consist of bricks and mortar, patches of land, and generally located within city limits. Where money is involved, there will always be greed, dishonesty and questionable ethics. Usually those who want to control that money, direct the narrative, and profit unethically, are the first to create “associations”. Some skulk in the digital shadows, the really unscrupulous often hide in plain sight. Some of the most prominent affiliate programs are the proverbial wolf. The sheep they slyly gather are none the wiser. Affiliates are treated unfairly. Disillusioned, they simply quit the industry.

I speak from experience. In the late ’90s the Internet revolution was in full bloom. We were making lots of money with affiliate marketing. The problem in the modern day Wild Wild West, the cowboys were taking the buffalo bacon, right from under our noses. Digital robbery. The sheriffs were slow on the Internet uptake, and did not even know how to spell byte, let alone the smell of buffalo. We were on our own, legally. There was no way to bring merchants to account for taking advantage of affiliates and withholding commissions without justification. Possession is nine tenths of the law.

My first attempt to define the ethics and standards for affiliate marketing was back in 1999. We created the Internet Affiliate Marketing Association (iAfma.org) and set about trying to orchestrate, educate, and regulate. We failed. The big gun merchants simply steam rolled on their unscrupulous way. By the same token, the affiliate barrel also had bad apples, and the whole industry started to ferment. Unable to push back the tide, I retreated to higher ground and started a traditional IT company, in the known world of traditional commerce, invoices and salaries. Old school ethics.

Now that I’m retired and the siren song of affiliate marketing beckons strongly again, we are back. The Internet Affiliate Marketing Association has been revived, albeit with a difference. It’s not about controlling unethical players, but rather protecting our own game. My desire to help keep it fair in revenue share remains intact, but with age comes wisdom. We can easily keep our own back yard clean and tidy, but not necessarily prevent the residents across town from living in their soiled underwear. Each to their own. Our hope is that the wind always blows in the other direction.

iAfma.org focuses on making sure that all our initiatives keep it fair in revenue. We do include outside affiliate programs, but very selectively. Only accrediting merchants with squeaky clean affiliate programs, who treat their affiliates with respect, and pay on time. The same for affiliates.
